Following an ankle injury during the 2023 World Cup, which led to his withdrawal from the tournament and raised concerns about his availability for the upcoming IPL season, late 2023 reports indicated a positive recovery trajectory. Multiple factors support the likelihood of Pandya taking the field for the Mumbai Indians. Firstly, December 2023 news reports highlighted his favorable progress in rehabilitation, indicating that he was on course to achieve the fitness targets for the IPL. Secondly, in January 2024, social media circulated video clips showcasing Pandya engaging in demanding training sessions, underscoring his strong commitment to being ready for IPL matches.

Rishabh Pant's participation in IPL 2024 remains uncertain. After a car accident in December 2022, Pant underwent rehabilitation supervised by the BCCI. Reports throughout 2023 consistently highlighted positive progress, with Pant sharing videos of his batting and wicket-keeping in practice nets. The National Cricket Academy (NCA) holds the final decision on Pant's fitness. As of today, March 9, 2024, there has been no official announcement regarding his clearance. If granted full clearance by the NCA, Pant could potentially participate in the entire IPL season, possibly even taking on the role of a wicket-keeper batsman, though he might initially play as a batsman only. There is a favorable likelihood that Rishabh Pant will be part of the action in IPL 2024.

The ten IPL teams (franchises) had a combined purse of INR 262.95 crore (USD 31.58 million approx.) available to spend at this auction. When Hardik Pandya came into the ground for the toss he was booed. The booing was so bad that Sanjay Manjrekar had to ask the crowd to behave. But this booing set the tone of the evening. Sampson won the toss and decided to field first. Trent Boult started the attack with the new ball. He took 2 wickets in the last two balls and that also wickets of Rohit Sharma and Naman Dheer. For MI, the match seemed to get over at the end of this over. They never recovered from this loss. They kept losing wickets at short intervals.
