INCREDIBLE WIN BY KKR OVER SRH – IPL 2024

 What a match and what a finish. The last three overs of the match were a see-saw with the match moving in opposite directions with every ball. From requiring 60 runs in 20 balls, the match comes down to 6 runs required in 4 balls. All thanks to Klassen and Shahbaz who brought SRH to the threshold of victory. But it was not to be.

Earlier in the first innings, the top order of KKR collapsed with the exception of Phil Salt who played an exceptional innings. Interestingly, Phil Salt was not picked up in the mini-auction by any IPL team. He made it to KKR due to Jason Roy dropping out of the current season of IPL. Today he made the most of the chance given to him. SRH lost the early advantage they had when KKR was reduced to 51 for 4 in 7.5 overs and later when Markande removed Salt in the 14th over.

From the fifteenth over onwards Andre Russell went on a blitzkrieg innings of 64 runs from 25 balls and formed two great partnerships, first with Ramandeep Singh and later with Rinku Singh to take KKR to a formidable total of 208 runs.

SRH started on a great note and scored more than 60 runs in the powerplay with the loss of Mayank Agarwal. The scoring rate fell after the powerplay and SRH meandered slowly. The match seemed to be in KKR’s pocket when Abdul Samad got out in the seventeenth over at 145 runs. SRH required 63 runs at that time with 19 balls remaining. Shahbaz Ahmed hit a four on the last ball of the seventeenth over. The commentators commented that these runs would be good to maintain a good Net Run Rate by SRH.  

Then Klaasen hit Varun Chakravarthy for 21 runs and Mitchell Starc for 26 runs in the next two overs to turn the tide in favor of SRH. The last over was bowled by Harshit Rana who held his nerve in the last 3 balls to snatch the victory back from SRH.

The big disappointment in this thriller was a not so impressive performance both by Starc as well as Cummins. Andre Russell and Heinrich Klaasen were the respective heroes of their teams.

Andre Russell got the Man of the Match award for his 64 off 25 balls.

The IPL 2024 auction was held on December 19, 2023, at Coca Cola Arena, Dubai. The auction was held outside India for the first time. The ten IPL teams (franchises) had a combined purse of INR 262.95 crore (USD 31.58 million approx.) available to spend at this auction. RR DEMOLISHES MI IN WANKHEDE - IPL 2024

When Hardik Pandya came into the ground for the toss he was booed. The booing was so bad that Sanjay Manjrekar had to ask the crowd to behave. But this booing set the tone of the evening. Sampson won the toss and decided to field first. Trent Boult started the attack with the new ball. He took 2 wickets in the last two balls and that also wickets of Rohit Sharma and Naman Dheer.
