CLINICAL WIN FOR PUNJAB KINGS IN THEIR MAIDEN OUTING – IPL 2024

Today’s first half of the match gave me a deja vu feeling that I have seen this all before. I saw it yesterday in RCB’s inning. It seemed uncannily similar. Same good hitting by the openers in the Powerplay and the same fall of wickets in regular succession.

RCB ended up making 173 for 9 in the twenty overs. All the batters chipped in with some runs but no one played an anchor innings. DC looked adrift in most of the match. They kept losing wickets at crucial junctures. They were able to reach the score of 174 also with the help of Abishek Porel’s cameo. Porel scored 32 off 10 balls which included two fours and two sixes.

But this valiant batting of Porel went in vain as PBKS went about scoring the required runs in a fairly easy manner. With the exception of Jonny Bairstow and Jitesh Sharma, the other major batsmen chipped to make the runs for PBKS> The anchor innings was played by Sam Curran, who scored 63 off 47 balls. Curran also got the Man Of the Match Award. He was ably assisted in completing the required runs by Liam Livingston who scored an unbeaten 38 off 21 balls.

Although the match went up to the last ball, it was not a last ball thriller. It was evident by the nineteenth over that Punjab was going to easily win.

The first two matches of IPL 2024 have not been as exciting as expected but the tournament has just begun. Hope for a more exciting match today evening.
