CHANGE OF GUARD- CHENNAI SUPER KINGS IN IPL 2024
For the 2024 Indian Premier League, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had a major leadership transition on the eve of the start of the tournament. The renowned skipper MS Dhoni, who captained CSK to five IPL championships (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, 2023) has handed the reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad.
With this, CSK enters a new era. Fans hold the charismatic leader Dhoni in high
regard, and he leaves behind some pretty large shoes to fill. The 27-year-old
Maharashtra opener Gaikwad has performed admirably for CSK, taking up the
Orange Cap in 2021. He captained the Indian Cricket team which won the Gold
Medal in the debut appearance of Cricket in the Asian Games in 2023 held in Hangzhou,
the People’s Republic of China.
For the last few years, there have been discussions about a change of
leadership at CSK. In 2022, Ravindra Jadeja was appointed the captain but the
team flopped completely due to internal conflicts. This year, CSK seems more ready
for the change, Gaikwad appears to have been prepared for this position by the
team for some time, as evidenced by his participation in captaincy programs and
time spent with Dhoni in domestic competitions.
Fans will be eagerly monitoring this transition. It will be intriguing to watch
how Gaikwad manages CSK and develops his own style of leadership.
