BRILLIANT COMEBACK BY GUJARAT TITANS AGAINST MUMBAI INDIANS – IPL 2024

What a match and what a comeback by the Gujarat Titans. With 42 runs required from the last 5 overs with seven wickets in hand, somehow Mumbai Indians lost their way and MI lost by 6 runs.

MI dominated the match from the beginning. Although the top order of GT pitched in decent scores, MI bowling especially Bumrah kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Shubhman Gill and Omarzai got good starts but failed to convert to big scores. The only stable player for GT turned out to be Sai Sudarshan who scored 45 off 39 balls and was assisted in death overs by Tewatia. With the heroics of these two, GT was able to reach a somewhat respectable score of 168 runs.

Mid-innings the match was believed to be in Mumbai’s pocket, as the wicket was flat and MI has a great batting lineup. The opening for MI was not great with Ishan Kishan getting out in the first over. Naman Dhir played some good shots but he also departed fast. Rohit and Brewis played a steady innings and MI seemed to be cruising.

Then Rohit got out and things went downhill for MI from there. Rashid Khan was brilliant and controlled the flow of runs. The penultimate over by Spencer Johnson was the over in which the match seemed to slip from MI’s hands. After he was hit for 6 on the first ball, Johnson came back with 2 wickets and just conceded one more run in the over. In the last over, Pandya hit a six and four consecutively raising hopes of MI again but was out on the third ball. Umesh Yadav controlled the over and ensured GT’s win.

Sai  Sudarshan was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant batting.

With the first match over for all the teams, the tournament gets into second gear now.
